Geno Thorpe is Syracuse's last available scholarship. The South Florida guard will likely battle Frank Howard for a starting job.

South Florida graduate transfer Geno Thorpe committed to Syracuse on Friday afternoon, according to multiple reports.

The 6-foot-4 guard visited SU Thursday before committing a day later. He chose the Orange over Pittsburgh and Seton Hall.

Thorpe, who is eligible to play immediately, averaged 15.1 points and 4.6 assists for USF last season. He was the leading scorer in the Bulls offense that finished the year 7-23. Syracuse will be Thorpe’s third school after Penn State and South Florida. With the Nittany Lions, Thorpe played 18.3 minutes per game over 66 games.

With the Bulls in 2016-17, Thorpe shot 37.5 percent from 3-point range. That percentage would’ve been the fourth highest for SU last year. But with Tyler Lydon entering the 2017 NBA Draft and the graduation of Andrew White and John Gillon, Thorpe will enter the season as the Syracuse’s top 3-point threat.

The addition of Thorpe addresses depth at the guard position. He joins Frank Howard and Tyus Battle as the only experienced players in the backcourt.

Syracuse now has 11 scholarship players on its roster, which means the Orange has none left to give. Thorpe is SU’s second transfer this spring after underclassman Elijah Hughes announced his commitment to SU on May 11.
